Something I would loved to have made myself.

"Simple, sublime brilliance. Sheer power and awe inspiring intensity. This moved me. I urge all NG fans, anybody with a shred of decency in their heart of hearts to see this gain the noteriety it deserves. First class. Beautiful and moving."

Those are probably the exact same words I would have used myself. Rankings and scores aside, I can honestly say this is one of my most favourite animations on this site. Superb.

Pure brilliance.

I love this piece. As soon as Mr. Shultz opened his mouth, I just cracked up laughing. And when he say "Thankyou!", it just made the whole thing classic. It smacks of British humour (don't get to see much of that these days), and that's why I love it.

Please carry on making more episodes. It's great to see a fellow londoner on these pages.

cheers mate, it's great hearing such kind words from such a talented flash artist. London power!

Can anyone say "overrated"?

It's a good submission, but honestly, everyone is rating it highly because of the violence and animation (of which there is very little).

I watched tentatively waiting for this "silky smooth" animation that everyone raves about, but all I found were snippets of something brilliant. That's all. Genyu's Blade was tremendously better than this, and where is that movie in the Top 50?

And front page? I don't understand how this got to the front page.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good first submission, much better than 70% of the rubbish here. But it's been overhyped beyond belief. Though if it truly is your first proper movie (I'd like to know how long you've been using Flash for before you made this movie), then we can only expect you to get better. I mean, look at Jose Ortiz's first batch of submissions, compared to his latest. That is an animator who has matured over time. And I wish that you do too.

Sindel, Kano, Lui Kang, Sonya, Cyrax, Sektor, Sheeva, Cabal.

Those are the ones you should watch, the others were pretty mediocre and didn't raise even a titter from me.

Good sprite ripping, though a little slow to cycle through them all. I would have liked a skip button for when the announcer announces the FATALITY bit. Gets boring watching/hearing it at least 10 times.

It was ok, nice short animation with a humurous (although strange) ending.

But the current score just doesn't justify it. Your other work is great, but this isn't in the same league. Though I assume it wasn't meant to be (hence the "short" animation).

I wish people would just vote a little more constructively. It's either a 10 ("Great job dude, you are the best ever flash!"" or a 0 ("dude you suck that was gay go die crap you are crap").

.

This did nothing for me.

As has already been pointed out, the animation was choppy. The characters didn't stand out at all. The dialogue and humour was, at best, average. Some scenes were painfully drawn out. And the story? Well, I'm not one to speak about story, but let's just say that it kinda flew straight past me (assuming it was there in the first place 'to' fly past me).

Keep on making more, I can see you improving as you go along. Though I really, for the life of me, have no idea whatsoever what this is doing in the Top 50. It doesn't stand out at all in any areas.

People see a woman and straight away think that it's the best character in the world. Go figure.

"Zero-Wing isn't worth saving" - A previous reviewer.

And I completely agree with him/her. There are literally hundreds of side-scrolling games identical to ZW which have been released over the years. Yet you chose ZW because you felt there was a "seed" of story in there. I think that perhaps you chose ZW because the AYB thing was so popular, and a serious flash movie based on it would rally lots of interest in the project.

Admittedly, the final product (apart from the name) bears little or no resemblance to ZW.

The way you constantly advertised this in the forums were shameless, and that when this movie was finally released and turned out to be nothing short of mediocre is disappointing. The audio didn't fit with the animation, and drowned out any message/storyline you were trying to get through. Sound effects would have been far better.

All in all, a pretty mediocre movie. Unfortunate really, as it clearly seems you have genuine talent.

TFX responds:

1.) I chose Zero Wing because it wasn't getting the fair treatment it deserved. By the time my iteration of Zero Wing came out, AYB was well on it's way out of popularity.

2.) I explain it in my Director's Speaks portion. This isn't Zero Wing as originally intended, this is what was given and this is my spin and expansion of the idea.

3.) My advertising was pitiful in the face of the Miracle Explosion series campaign.

4.) You are one of the few who believe the audio didn't fit with the animation. Yes, the sound could've been better (or some sounds at all) but you are in a very small minority.

4) This was my first big movie ever. To call it 'mediocre' in the face that it still hangs in the top 200 out of 16000 entries is a testament to it's quality and enjoyability.

For absolute crap's sake, will people stop voting so highly on such mutated defamations?
.
This wasn't art, nor was it it even mildly entertaining in any way. The graphics were a mishmash of authentic sprites and horrifically drawn images. The framerate was slow to the point of boredom. Nay, death. The storyline was disappointingly absent and the music did absolutely nothing to increase the entertainment value of this dreadful piece.
.
Please, next time THINK about what you are going to create and WATCH what you create. It helps a great deal.
.
And people, THINK before you vote and review. This abomination made the Daily Spot. How sad.

SplashKhat responds:

Yay it made the Daily 5!, Thanks everyone ^^. just keep in mind that you cant let these jealous types put you down. Enjoy, and good luck on your own projects.

Nice movie. Although some people are interpreting the message differently, and are voting accordingly. I'm gonna put aside what I feel about critics and blamming and concentrate on the technical aspects of the movie.
1) Graphics were nothing exceptional, but that didn't matter here. The movie was not about graphics. They were good enough for what the movie was trying to say.
2) Sound was one the best things here, followed closely by the style of the movie. I'm amazed how brilliant the synching was, great job. The style was set up brilliantly, with each scene deserving of being in the movie.
3) Interactivity and violence speak for themselves. Humour was a given, great stuff.
4) The 7/10 is a good score, 70%. I laughed out loud when I watched this movie (only PK2 has done that for me recently), and that is a good sign. Unfortunately for me, the replay value was lacking somewhat, otherwise the score would have been 8/10.
.
The message is obviously controversial. I personally think that anyone should be able to vote, regardless of whether they have flash or are able to create flash movies (good or bad). Yes, some people just blam for points. But a majority of the NG audience actually vote constructively based on whether they genuinely enjoyed the movie or not. This is proved by many of the great movies in the Top 50, they didn't get there by people blamming all the time. If a movie has any redeeming qualities, then it will do well in the Portal. I don't think anyone can argue with that.
On the other hand, is a movie is crap (regardless of how much time and effort the author put into it), then it's crap. No amount of time and effort will disguise the fact that some movies are crap. By voting 5 on these movies, it effectively tells people that their movie is Top 50 material, and consequently they will keep churning out the same rubbish without looking to better their movies. This is not only a waste of the author's time, but our time (as critics) too. The only reason very low rating movies get blammed is not to fill up Tom/Wade's HDDs with flash movies that really don't deserve to be there. In a perfect world, the really bad movies would still be there, albeit with a low score.
.
Overall, good submission.

.

Non-existent storyline.
Average sprite-ripping.
Poor animation.
No humour.
Strange choice of 'music'.
.
Can someone perhaps explain what this is doing in the Top 50?
